How to Extend a Rental or Change the Dates

Updated over 2 months ago

Plans can change, and sometimes rental periods need to be adjusted. Here’s how to extend a rental or modify the dates.

Extending a Rental

Currently, there is no built-in function to extend an ongoing rental. To extend the rental, the borrower must:

  1. Submit a new rental request for the additional days.

  2. Wait for the lender's approval of the new request.

  3. Pay for the new request.

Exception: Free Extensions

  • If the lender agrees to an extra rental day at no additional cost, there is no need to submit a new request.

  • Always confirm this agreement in writing using Fat Llama’s messaging system.

  • In this case, the lender should wait to mark the item as returned until it is actually returned.

Changing Rental Dates

To modify the rental dates, there are two options:

  1. Cancel the existing booking and submit a new rental request with the updated dates.

  2. Ask the lender to contact support, and Fat Llama can manually adjust the dates on the request.

Important Notes on Date Changes

  • If a paid rental is postponed without updating the system, it will automatically be marked as completed once the original rental period ends.

  • To avoid this, ensure the new dates are correctly updated in the system before the rental is marked as completed.

  • Support can update the rental dates, but this does not affect the rental price. If additional charges apply, the borrower must submit a new booking request for the extra days.

Respecting the Lender’s Decision

  • If the lender cannot accommodate an extension or date change, their decision must be respected.

  • If the rental needs to be canceled, review and follow the applicable cancellation terms.
